Christmas pop-up bars light up New York for a limited time, featuring festive cocktails and decorations

‘Tis the season for drinking festive cocktails out of cute glasses in bars bedazzled with over-the-top Christmas decorations.

Holiday pop-up bars are back in the Big Apple, and as the concept name implies, will be gone before you know it.

Those looking for a taste of tiki experience with their Christmas cocktails should head to Sippin’ Santa, which boasts dozens of locations across the U.S. and Canada. The only New York City outpost can be found at Boilermaker, a corner bar in the East Village (13 1st Ave.)

Reservations are open through Jan. 2 at this location, which was the first Sippin’ Santa ever when it first popped up back in 2015.

A combination of Christmas lights and tiki hut palms hang from the bar, a slender Christmas tree is topped with a Santa hat, colorful light strings and faux flowers line the ceiling, and stockings, wreaths, poinsettia pictures and surfing Santa figurines are among the wall decorations.

As for boozy options, fun ones include the Sippin’ Santa, served in a Santa-shaped mug that’s decked out with a mini umbrella and surfboard and lemon slice, and filled with aged Demerara rum, Amaro, lemon, orange, and something called “gingerbread mix” for $17.

There’s also the Azul Navidad, $16, a bright blue concoction topped with a tiny surfboard and umbrella, lime wedge and filled with tequila, mezcal, lime, cream of coconut, Blue Curaçao, hazelnut liqueur and pineapple rum.

Those looking to share can order the Mistletoe-To-Toe for $45, a massive mug for two that’s swimming with bourbon, walnut liqueur, Jamaican and Puerto Rican rums, lime, orange and maple syrup.

There are also shots, boilermakers (beers served with shots), bar food and snacks on the menu. The grub includes burgers ($15), wings, and Crispy Brussels Sprouts in Pad Thai sauce ($8).

Sippin’ Santa’s companion pop-up holiday chain is Miracle, which has multiple international branches and more than 100 in the U.S., including spots in New York and New Jersey.

Manhattan’s Miracle is located at The Cabinet, also in the East Village (649 E. 9th St), and open for bookings through Jan. 2

Sip cocktails like the Elfing Around ($16), made with prosecco, gin, mulled wine reduction, grapefruit shrub, aromatic bitters and orange bitters. Or try the Jingle Balls Nog, also $16, and filled with cognac, cream sherry, almond milk, cream, egg, vanilla and nutmeg.

There are a couple of shots and wines on the menu, along with snacks like Christmas Cookies ($4) and Sweet Potato Hummus for $8.

The boroughs boast a second Miracle pop-up, located in Brooklyn. Called Miracle on Union, it temporarily occupies the Williamsburg cocktail bar Thief at 595 Union Ave.

The menu here is similar to the one at the Manhattan Miracle, with drink options like the SanTaRex ($17), a mixture of blanco tequila, mezcal, melon liqueur, almond orgeat, lime and tiki bitters, all served in an adorable green dinosaur-shaped mug featuring a T-Rex wearing a Santa hat.
