Britain dominates the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, winning 3 gold medals out of 5 medals, but when their team of 15 sailors evaluated the future, 8 of them said they would withdraw from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medalists Hannah Mills (470 women), Giles Scott (Finland) and Stuart Bissell (49ers) are all spending time in their Olympic careers.

Also out were London 2012 silver medalist Luke Patience (men's 470), three-time Olympian Ali Young (ILCA 6), two-time Charlotte Dobson (49erFX) and Chris Grubb (Men's 470), and the 2016 Rio Olympics British team player Ben Saxton (Nakra 17).

"All good things must end, so these incredible athletes have decided to withdraw from the Olympic campaign," said Mark Robinson, RYA's Olympic Performance Manager.

"However, as a team, we are fully prepared. Many of our Tokyo teams will set off again, in addition to a large number of talented sailors who have been patiently waiting for the opportunity to shine.

"With less than three years before Paris 2024, the British sailing team is going all out. Their primary goal is to defend our title as the most successful Olympic sailing team in the world."

Despite losing so many big names, the British sailing team still retains the gold medal winners Dylan Fletcher (49 people) and Alid McIntyre (women 470). They will continue to fight for the next Olympic Games with their new teammates. But it has not yet been determined.

In addition, Nacra 17 Tokyo 2020 silver medalists John Jimson and Anna Burnett will also join Emma Wilson, women’s RS:X bronze medalist, windsurfer Tom Squith, and 49erFX crew Saskia Tidi continued to compete for the gold medal together.

There is a new event plan in Paris in 2024. The Finns leave, 470 men's and women's events are merged into a mixed event, and the equipment for men's and women's windsurfing events will be replaced from RS:X to iQFoil. This is the complete sailing event for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games:

Men’s Single Dinghy – ILCA 7 Women’s Single Dinghy – ILCA 6 Mixed Two People Dinghy – 470 Men’s Dinghy – 49er Women’s Dinghy – 49erFx Men’s Kiteboard – Formula Kite Class Women’s Kiteboard – Formula Kite Class Men Windsurfing – iQllFoil Women's Hybrid Windsurfing – Nakla 17
