Concert to benefit music therapy for vets

Locally based nonprofit Resounding Joy holds its third annual Living Your Dreams: Rising Together concert from 6 to 8 p.m. SaturdaySept. 17 at the Encinitas Elks Lodge, 1393 Windsor Road. The event raises money for the nonprofit’s Semper Sound military music therapy program, which provides music wellness and music therapy for military members, veterans and their family members. The concert features the Semper Sound Band, which includes service members and local veterans of all ages. The program includes local ukulele and guitar band Island Mist, along with Native American artist and veteran Ivan Sam. Doors open at 5 p.m. and food trucks will be available. Library hosts art show on nature, surfing

The Friends of the Cardiff Library group hosts an art show featuring the work of local artist Brett Hoffman through Oct. 29 at the library, 2081 Newcastle Ave. The exhibit includes surfboard graphics, unique faces, and plein air landscapes. Magic’ fundraiser to benefit animal shelter

“Unleashing The Magic” is the theme of the Celebration of Second Chances benefiting Encinitas-based Rancho Coastal Humane Society on Sept. 17 at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. Highlights include live music, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, raffle opportunities and a silent auction, along with a mystery jewelry tree at a cocktail reception beginning at 5:30 p.m. and VIP cocktail hour starting at 4:30 p.m. Dinner, wine, coffee and dessert will be served, and entertainment features an animal communicator, a magician, a caricaturist and a few surprises. Mistress of Ceremonies will be KNSD-NBC 7 Meteorologist Dagmar Midcap. Proceeds support the nonprofit animal shelter. Plant With Purpose Gala on Saturday

Quilting group holds auction, fundraiser

The nonprofit El Camino Quilters Guild of Carlsbad holds a Silent Auction and Mega Sale fundraiser from 9:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday Sept. 13 at The Fields Church 2265 Camino Vida Roble. The event features vintage handmade quilts and quilting supplies, along with themed gift baskets. Auction items include theater, restaurant and sport tickets and weekend getaway. Youth Enrichment Services meeting set for Thursday

Rotary puts on annual Lobsterfest

The Del Mar-Solana Beach Rotary Club will host a Baja Style Lobsterfest from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 17 in the courtyard of the Del Mar Hilton, 15575 Jimmy Durante Blvd. A flamenco guitarist will greet guests on arrival, followed by a lobster dinner, music and dancing to Hot Rocks San Diego. Proceeds go to help the club’s major beneficiaries, Just In Time for Foster Youth and Casa de Amistad. Garden club hosts floral designer

The San Dieguito Garden Club meets at 10 a.m. Sept. 28 outside at the San Dieguito Heritage Museum in The Heritage Ranch, 450 Quail Gardens Drive. Internationally known floral designer Rene Van Rems, American Institute of Floral Designers, will give a demonstration of floral designs. Fee of $20 for nonmembers. The San Diego Botanic Garden holds a Butterfly Walk from 10 a.m. to noon Mondaysept 12. The Escondido Public Library hosts an exhibit of historical photos documenting the history of Escondido’s Grape Day festivals starting in the early 20th century. The Ninth District PTA and Rady Children’s Hospital of San Diego host the fourth annual Suicide Prevention Symposium as a webinar from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday Sept. 17 for parents, caregivers, educators and health care professionals. Attendees will learn the difference between anxiety and depression and have a better understanding of treatment options for youths. International Coastal Cleanup Day is back

International Coastal Cleanup Day returns to San Diego County from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m Saturday, September 17, 2022. I Love A Clean San Diego is the San Diego host for the international coastal cleanup and will be joining U.S. states and more than 90 countries across the globe. San Diego County volunteers are slated to join nearly 1 million volunteers worldwide to remove pollution from connected ecosystems. ‘The Bus Ride; Home’ art exhibit at theater

An art exhibition fundraiser, “The Bus Ride; Home: The Buses Are Here, Our Heroes Ain’t on Em,” is showing at 6 p.m. Saturday sept17 at the Sunshine Brooks Theater, 217 N. Coast Highway. The Oceanside-based Santa Margarita Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a ringing of the bells ceremony to celebrate Constitution Day at 12:45 p.m. SaturdaySept. 17 at Mission San Luis Rey, 4050 Mission Ave. A brief talk on the significance of the day will be presented, which will be followed by the bell ringing at 1 p.m. The local event open to the community is part of Bells Across America, an annual celebration of the signing of the United States Constitution. Church holding underwear drive this month

Mexican Independence Day Celebration Friday

The Gloria McClellan Senior Center, 1400 Vale Terrace Drive, is celebrating Mexican Independence Day on Friday, September 16 at the Park Terrace Café. Wounded Warrior Homes holds golf fundraiser

Wounded Warrior Homes’ annual golf outing, Fairways 4 Veterans, is set for Sept. 19 at Shadowridge Golf Club, 1980 Gateway Drive, to raise money for veteran services. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. Shotgun start is at 11:30 a.m. and 19th Hole Celebration is at 5 p.m. with dinner, short program and live auction. Proceeds will provide transitional housing and services for single post-9/11 veterans with traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress disorder hrough the Wounded Warrior Homes program. Cost is $225 per player, including lunch, cart, greens fees, dinner and 19th Hole Celebration. The community can sponsor a veteran to play for $225 or make a donation to support the fundraiser.
