The alligator was rescued after videos surfaced of it struggling in the surf.

An alligator found itself in a sticky (salty?) situation on the Texas Gulf Coast recently capturing the attention of beach goers. The wild alligator, coming in at more than seven feet long, was rescued on Thursday, October 6, after videos surfaced of him struggling against the surf and waves.

Wild alligators are not a rare sight at South Padre Island, but Jacob Reinbolt, a herpetologist at the alligator sanctuary the SPI Birding and Nature Center told Valley Central that they rarely wander onto the surfside area. They prefer freshwater and typically only head into the salty Gulf long enough to get some food.

“He had been fighting the waves for who knows how long before someone even spotted him. By the time we got him he was exhausted,” Reinbolt told Valley Central. “So it was definitely a rescue, we returned them deep into Laguna Atascosa, where he has access to fresh water. He’s gonna be much better off.”

Reinbolt and his team used "quick hands" to rescue the gator, explaining that they used a lasso threaded through a PVC pole to guide him out of the water. The alligator was rescued with help from Texas Parks and Wildlife and relocated to the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, about 10 miles from where he was captured.

A video has gone viral after a San Antonio police officer was fired after he shot and critically injured a 17-year-old driver that was sitting in a McDonald's eating a hamburger when he flung the car door open and attempted to arrest him. The teen drove away, prompting the officer to open fire. Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonazales said that he is dismissing charges against the teen "for now."

The race for Bexar County judge is heating up over following accusations laid at a recent debate between Democratic candidate Peter Sakai and Republican Trish DeBerry. DeBerry accused Sakai of funding a dark money campaign that includes attack ads on local television stations that label the Republican  as a "ruthlessly ambitious, unethical and extremist." DeBerry also called out local prominent attorney Thomas J. Henry with similar claims, adding that he is a misogynist. Henry responded in kind.
